A polyurethane (PU) coating is one of the most effective upgrades you can make to a vibratory bowl feeder. Applied to the running surfaces of the bowl, track and tooling, PU coating protects the base metal, cushions your components, reduces noise and helps parts feed faster and more consistently. At Custom Feeders we now supply polyurethane coating on new feeding systems and offer a full strip-and-re-coat service for your existing bowls, hoppers and linear feeders – backed by over 30 years of bowl feeder experience.
Why coat a bowl feeder with polyurethane?
We serve a wide range of clients from the Aircraft Fasteners / Automotive / and Special purpose machine builders, plus local enterprises.
Custom Feeders manufacture a standard range of Bowl feeders predominately used for supplying Grinding / Thread rolling machines with High and low feed rates, these units are of various sizes to handle the production range required, with easy adjustability between sizes using only a single Allen key.
The above units deliver components hanging from the head as most of this equipment requires, however some components need to be dropped down a tube load system, we also supply.
Our Polyurethane Coating Options
We match the coating hardness and thickness to your component and application. Polyurethane is specified by its Shore hardness – a softer grade grips and cushions more, a harder grade lasts longer and suits faster feed rates.
- Shore hardness grades from 60A (soft) through to 98A (firm) – selected to suit your part and cycle speed.
- Coating thickness typically 1mm to 4mm, depending on the bowl and application.
- Smooth coatings for general feeding and delicate components.
- Textured coatings for oily, greasy or wet parts that need extra grip.
- Food-grade / FDA-compliant grades available for food, pharmaceutical and medical applications.
- Colour options to suit clean-room or brand requirements.
Not sure which grade you need? Send us your component details and we’ll recommend the right specification.
Re-coating and Refurbishment
Worn or damaged coating? We strip existing bowls, hoppers and linear feeders back and re-coat them to as-new condition — often far more cost-effective than replacing the feeder. Re-coating is the ideal time to retool for a new component form as well. This service covers equipment we’ve built and units originally supplied by others.
Applications
Our polyurethane coatings are used across:
- Automotive and electrical component feeding
- Food, pharmaceutical and medical (food-grade / FDA grades)
- Plastics, caps and closures
- Fasteners, headed and hanging parts
- Any application where noise, part damage or feed reliability is a concern
